They measure steel, grain, housing, machinery, human life expectancy, and happiness,as well as how much farther we have to go to reach the moon.

Uzbek SSR 1979 is based on the real event of the Uzbek Cotton Affair. Set during the Cold War, it portrays a constituent republic of the Soviet Union struggling to survive and develop under political pressure and economic demands.

Cotton was Uzbek SSR’s designated economic role within the Soviet Union, as well as a measure of political performance. The vast cotton fields became a stage for the tensions between the two blocs, while revealing the contradictions of human nature.
